HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — The U.S. Postal Service has found about 5,000 Hillsborough water and sewer bills that had been lost last week, officials said Tuesday.

The bills were delivered to the Hillsborough Post Office early last week and should have been received by customers by Aug. 1. Payment is due by Aug. 25.

A spokesman for the Postal Service's Greensboro District said the bills were located Monday and would be delivered Tuesday.

“We regret the inconvenience this may have caused and express our sincere apologies to the town of Hillsborough,” spokesman Carl Walton said in a statement.

Hillsborough officials said that any customers who don't receive a bill should call or visit the Water/Sewer Billing and Collections Office in the Town Hall Annex on North Churton Street to find out how much they owe.
