RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County School System is looking into a case of missing money at a middle school.

Principal Patti Hamler confirmed at a parent meeting in December that an investigation was launched into misplaced funds at Leesville Middle School in north Raleigh.

A parent told WRAL that Hamler said uncashed checks had been found in closets, file cabinets and storage tubs.

The school system implemented stricter auditing standards after a fraud ring was uncovered three years ago in the School System Transportation Department.
