FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A Fort Bragg soldier who was reported missing over the weekend was declared absent without leave last month, a military official confirmed to WRAL News Tuesday.

Travis Reynolds, 25, an intelligence analyst with the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne) part of the 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne), was declared AWOL on Jan. 17, said Thomas Collins, a public affairs officer with the brigade, in a written statement.

"The unit followed standard procedures once it had been determined SPC Reynolds departed of his own volition," Collins said.

It was not immediately clear why Reynolds left the military base. But he and his wife, Deanna Reynolds, 24, and their son, Cooper Reynolds were last seen Feb. 5 while visiting Deanna Reynolds’ family in upstate New York. They were also traveling with their dogs, a German shepherd and a husky. Both dogs are microchipped.

Collins said the family was not believed to have been in harm's way.

"We were happy and relieved to hear SPC Reynolds, wife, Deanna and son, Cooper were found safe," Collins said. "The safety and well-being of all our soldiers and their families is our number one concern."
