Burlington, N.C. — A minivan crashed into the lobby of the Burlington Police Department on Friday afternoon.
The vehicle smashed through the front door of the department's headquarters, at 267 W. Front St., shortly after 12:30 p.m., sending shards of glass across the lobby.
One department employee suffered minor injuries.
Investigators interviewed the driver, who was alone in the vehicle at the time, and said they believe the person was suffering from a mental health crisis at the time. The driver was taken for further evaluation.
"The Burlington Police Department will continue its investigation and file appropriate charges after consultation with the district attorney," police said in a statement.
Inspectors determined the building was structurally sound after the incident, and operations resumed with coronavirus protocols in place at the public entrance, police said.
