Millions of eggs distributed from NC recalled due to salmonella risk
More than 200 million eggs distributed from a Hyde County farm have been recalled due to a possible salmonella contamination. Food Lion and Walmart eggs (Great Value) are included in this recall.
Posted — UpdatedAccording to the FDA, Rose Acre Farms, based in Indiana, has voluntarily recalled the eggs, which were sold under a variety of brands including store brands at Walmart and Food Lion. The eggs were distributed to at least nine states, including North Carolina.
According to the FDA, 22 illnesses have been reported as a result of the eggs to date.
Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, exposure to salmonella can lead to arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis if the organism enters the blood stream.
Young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are most susceptible to serious complications from salmonella, according to the FDA.
The affected eggs come from plant number P-1065 and have a date range of 011 through 102 printed on the side of the carton.
Anybody with recalled eggs should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Anybody with questions about the recall can call 855-215-5730 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
