Miles of delays in both directions after tractor-trailer crash on I-85 North near Hillsborough
A tractor-trailer crash closed both lanes of Interstate 85 Northbound near Hillsborough and backed up traffic in both directions for hours on Saturday.
Posted — UpdatedThe crash happened near North Carolina Hwy 86 at mile marker 165 near the exit for NC Highway 86 when the driver of a Chevy Tahoe lost control and got into the way of the truck. The tractor-trailer rolled onto its side and slid into the guard rail along the median.
The crash was reported around 12:45 p.m., and traffic backed up in miles in either direction throughout the afternoon.
An adult and three children who had been in the Tahoe were taken to Duke University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was treated at the scene.
Driver Brooke Foltz had advice for those hitting the road. "Stay in the middle, and stay at 70, and let them go around you," she said. "There are too many cars today so I'm not gonna try to race with them."
