THAT NUMBER IS 34% FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS. THIS GANG IS SAID THAT WAS RELEASED IN APRIL, BUT WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON IT FOR ABOUT 18 MONTHS. JIM STEIN IS DURHAM COUNTY'S GANG REDUCTION STRATEGY MANAGER GANG ACTIVITY MIGHT MANIFEST ITSELF IN SEVERAL WAYS IN THE SCHOOL SETTING >> AND THAT COULD BE AND JUST DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR. THEY ARE FAR, FAR LESS LIKELY TO BE INVOLVED IN A REPORT OFFERS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR REDUCING THE GANG POPULATION IN THE COUNTY, INCLUDING BRINGING PREVENTION SERVICES TO NEIGHBORHOODS WITH THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF VIOLENCE. STITES SAYS THEY ARE ALREADY WORKING WITH THE SCHOOL SYSTEM TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. OUR SCHOOLS ARE PART OF OUR DURHAM COMMUNITY AND REFLECTIVE OF WHAT HAPPENS IN THE COMMUNITY HAPPENS IN OUR SCHOOLS. DPS HAS ALSO HIRED 6 STUDENTS, SUCCESS COACHES TO WORK WITH HIGH SCHOOLERS THAT ARE SHOWING SIGNS WRISTS, PERHAPS OF DROPPING OUT AND COUNSELORS AND SOCIAL WORKERS ARE WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE THAT STUDENTS NEEDS.
