LITTLETON, N.C. — Halifax County sheriff's deputies arrested two men suspected of committing a home invasion southeast of Littleton early Friday.

The victim told investigators that two men entered his house in 5000 block of Justice Branch Road, assaulted him and tried to get and use his 20-gauge, single-shot shotgun. Eventually, the victim said, one man took him outside to a shed while the second searched the house.

Investigators charged Courtney James, 19, and Michael Edward Ward, 40, both of Enfield, with first-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery and attempted larceny.

James and Ward were placed in the Halifax County Jail under separate $100,000 bonds. They were both scheduled to appear in court Aug. 4.

State Department of Correction records show that Ward has previous convictions for drug offenses.
