CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A memorial service for a woman killed in a hit-and-run on Interstate 40 will be held Sunday at a Chapel Hill church.

The memorial for Judy Gail Siegel, 57, will be held at the Community Church on Purefoy Road at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Police said that early Feb. 10, Siegel's Toyota collided with the side or a tire of a tractor-trailer, causing her car to run off the right side of I-40 and hit a guardrail. Police believe that Siegel got out of her car and walked into highway, where multiple vehicles struck her. The first vehicle that hit her did not remain at the scene, police said.

Relatives said that at age 18, Siegel survived a wreck that put her in a coma for three months. She was an animal lover who was devoted to her dog Tea-Tee, a 9-year-old terrier, who has been adopted by her previous owner.
