RALEIGH, N.C. — It is a very merry day for several families who welcomed the Triangle's first "Christmas babies" into the world just after midnight.

Ruby Love Shankweiler was born at 12:56 a.m. at UNC Rex Hospital weighing in at 5 pounds, 10 ounces. Her parents, Amanda and Derek Shankweiler, told WRAL News they’re doing great but that they’ll be spending the next few days in the hospital.

Ruby Love Shankwieler was born at 12:56 a.m. at UNC Rex Hospital weighing in at 5 pounds, 10 ounces.

The little outfit Ruby is wearing, they say, was handmade by a nurse at UNC Rex for the first baby born on Christmas morning.

At WakeMed, Lela Christine Hawkins was born at 2:25 a.m. at 4 pounds, 5 ounces.
