IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO PURSUE YOUR DREAMS. &gt;&gt; CRYSTAL GRAY'S ALWAYS LOVED LEARNING. BUT FOR YEARS SHE'S HAD TO FOCUS ON FAMILY. INSTEAD, I BECAME A MOTHER EARLY AT 16 AND JUST ALWAYS WORKED. SHE WAS ABLE TO FIND STEADY JOBS AND GET BY BUT OR DREAM OF A COURIER IN MEDICINE NEVER LEFT ARE GREAT. TOOK A LEAP OF FAITH AND ENROLLED IN THE SURGICAL TECH PROGRAM IN EDGECOMBE COMMUNITY COLLEGE. IT WAS HER FIRST TIME BACK ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS SINCE 1994 AND JUST BEING IN THAT ATMOSPHERE. AND, YOU KNOW, BEING ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUS AND JUST SEEING, YOU KNOW, THE STUDENTS AND WHAT WAS OFFERED. THIS WAS JUST WHAT SHE'D BEEN LOOKING FOR. SHE SAID A NEW ULTIMATE GOAL FOR SELF TO FINISH WITH HER DEGREE. THIS DECEMBER AND THEN CAME THE DAY HER INSTRUCTOR BROUGHT A FLIER TO CLASS ANYTHING THAT YOU GOOGLE OR SEARCH OR LOOK OUT, YOU KNOW, MALE CLINIC, MAYO CLINIC FOR THE FIRST TIME THE MAYO CLINIC WAS OFFERING A SUMMER INTERNSHIP IN SURGICAL TECH GIVING JUST FOR STUDENTS THE CHANCE TO WORK AT THEIR MAIN CAMPUS IN MINNESOTA, GRAY SUBMITTED HER APPLICATION 2 DAYS BEFORE THE DEADLINE. THE NEXT WEEK SHE WAS INVITED TO INTERVIEW THE DAY AFTER THAT THE EMAIL CAME DOWN. SHE GOTTEN THE INTERNSHIP IN DISBELIEF. GRAY TOLD HER INSTRUCTOR DCC I. &gt;&gt; TEXT HER AND SHE CALLED ME BACK AND SHE WAS CRYING ON THE PHONE AND I WAS ON MOTIONAL AND JUST JUST LIKE IN AWE GRAY'S BEEN AT THE HOSPITAL FOR A WEEK NOW TELLING WRAL IT'S BEEN A WHIRLWIND. SHE'S HOPING THE INTERNSHIP COULD TURN INTO AN OFFER FOR A FULL-TIME JOB. I FEEL LIKE I'M &gt;&gt; LIVING MY LIFE AND THE RIVERS. ALL RIGHT. I'M DOING ALL THE THINGS THAT I WANTED TO DO WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. BUT I WAS A MOTHER AND THAT, YOU KNOW, OBLIGATION OBVIOUSLY CAME FIRST FROM EDGECOMBE COUNTY TO LEARNING ONE OF THE TOP HOSPITALS IN THE WORLD. GRAY SAYS HER JOURNEY PROOFS THAT CHASING YOUR DREAM STARTS WITH TAKING THE FIRST STEP. MY MESSAGE. I WANT THEM TO KNOW THAT IT'S NOT TOO LATE. THERE'S A BIG SUPPORT SYSTEM. I JUST HOPE THAT IT MY STORY AND MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS INSPIRE OTHERS CAN WILLARD WRAL NEWS HAS COME COUNTY.</p>
