Massachusetts community rallies around beloved neighborhood dog with cancer
A beagle-corgi mix has brought joy to residents in Somerville, Massachusetts for a decade. Now, it's Sparkle's turn to need comfort.
one after another people of all ages stopped by this Summerville yard to say hello to the brightest pup on the block sparkle, you are fake. It was a famous sparkle. The beagle mix with the gentle soul has been living here with her family for 10 years and picked up a lot of friends. She just loves to be outside and we just sort of evolved people started petting her when she was out here and when the pandemic hit it seems sparkles fan club grew, she became even more beloved when I'd walk outside and people were here, everybody would express how grateful they were that she was outside, you know, they were so isolated and lonely and just not knowing how to cope and she was like part of their coping mechanism. Now it's sparkle that could use the extra comfort. She's been diagnosed with cancer, her family updated this sign that's in their yard letting everyone know her story. You know, people wanting to give her more love now that they know that she has limited time left with us. It's really, it's really been wonderful to see people have even dropped off gifts, made us very, very sad. Yeah, she's part of our lives now sparkle gets more than just regular visitors. People have been coming out of their way these past couple of days with nothing but smiles on their faces for the special girl that's left a paw print on so many hearts. We're just really lucky to have had her, you know, and the whole neighborhood is lucky to have had her, but she's kind of become the neighborhood dog, the mayor of Somerville.
