ABERDEEN, N.C. — A masked gunman assaulted a clerk and robbed a convenience store in the Moore County town of Aberdeen Saturday night.

Sheriff Lane Carter said that the gunman came into Mac Food Store, 735 Sand Pit Road, around 9:15 p.m. He demanded money from the cash register, hit the clerk with a handgun and fired into the counter.

After the clerk gave him money, the man ran from the store. Carter said investigators believe the man might have gotten into a vehicle parked nearby and had help from other people.

The man is described as black, approximately 6 feet tall, with a medium to dark complexion. He was wearing a red Anaheim Angels baseball hat, a hooded custom mask over his face, a white T-shirt, dark blue shorts and low-top Nike tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Moore County Sheriff's Office at 910-947-2931.
