The event is a national qualifier for other DockDogs events around the country. As I wrote last year about the event, according to DockDogs' website, competitions are open to any breed, mix and size of dog. Dogs must be at least six months old. Their handlers must be at least seven years to practice or compete.

The 2019 event is slated for May 2 to May 5 at Indian Creek K9 Aquatics in Goldston, about an hour from Raleigh.

"This event is expected to be even larger than it was last year as DockDogs has elected to not only designate it as a Double Header WildCard Event, which means, folks will be coming from all over the country chasing invitations to the 20th Annual Worlds Competition, but we have added a fourth discipline to the mix of competition, Dueling Dogs," Michelle Grainger, one of the local organizers, tells me.

The event is family friendly and free. There will be food trucks onsite, along with a silent auction. More information is on the Facebook event page.
