Marine helicopter makes emergency landing near Tarboro
The Marine Corps CH-53 Super Stallion helicopter landed just after 6 p.m. Tuesday in a farmer’s field.
Posted — UpdatedTARBORO, N.C. — A marine helicopter made a precautionary landing on Tuesday near Tarboro after a small electrical fire started on board, military officials said in a press release.
The Marine Corps CH-53 Super Stallion helicopter landed just after 6 p.m. Tuesday in a farmer’s field.
The helicopter belongs to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461 based at Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C. It was on a return leg of a troop transport mission.
No one was injured during the event. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The aircraft is expected to be repaired on-scene and return to MCAS New River within a week.
