Marine from Camp Lejeune dies in Afghanistan

A Camp Lejeune-based marine died Wednesday while supporting combat operations in Hemland province, Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A Camp Lejeune-based marine died Wednesday while supporting combat operations in Hemland province, Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Thursday. 

The death of Lance Cpl. John R. Wimpey Cagle, 19, of Tucker, Ga., is still under investigation, officials said. 

Cagle was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
