Marianne Williamson raises $3 million in third quarter, doubling her previous haul

CNN — Author Marianne Williamson raised $3 million in the third quarter of 2019, her campaign announced Thursday.
The haul is a significant boost from the $1.5 million Williamson raised respectively in both the first and second quarters of 2019.
Williamson, however, has spent much of the money she has raised. Her campaign announced on Thursday that the author had just over $650,000 in the bank, a small bank roll considering Williamson has raised more than $6.1 million in 2019.
"It's the American people who decide which candidates have a voice that needs to be heard, not the gatekeepers," said Patricia Ewing, Williamson's campaign manager. "We are in awe of our supporters, past and present, and appreciate the growing enthusiasm and support that enables us to continue competing in the early states."
Williamson's unlikely campaign, one where the candidate takes a unique approach to some of the most common political questions, has led to a series of viral moments, like when the author responded to a question about her first priority in the White House at the first debate by saying, "Girlfriend, you are so on."
After making the debate stage in June and July, though, Williamson has failed to qualify for both the September and October contests, results that were expected to cripple the author's campaign due to her reliance on viral moments and media attention.
But Williamson's ability to double her second quarter haul during a three-month period where it is notoriously difficult to raise money signals she may have the fundraising base to sustain a longer run.
Williamson's take puts her well below many of her Democratic opponents, namely Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' $25.3 million, South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg's $19.1 million and former Vice President Joe Biden's $15.2 million hauls. But it also puts the author ahead of Sen. Michael Bennet, who announced earlier this week he raised $2.1 million.
