The Leapfrog Group on Wednesday released its safety grades for North Carolina hospitals.

The report includes A grades for many Triangle hospitals, including WakeMed's Cary, Raleigh and north Raleigh campuses, UNC Rex in Raleigh, UNC Health Johnston in Clayton and Duke Raleigh Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital and Duke University Hospital. UNC Health Wayne in Goldsboro and UNC Health Nash in Rocky Mount also scored an A.
“Another ‘A’ grade from Leapfrog demonstrates our team’s commitment to patient safety and providing the highest level of care at all three of our hospitals,” said Craig Albanese, M.D., executive vice president and chief operating officer of Duke University Health System. “Our team’s hard work contributes to Duke’s reputation as a world-class health system.”
UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill was one of several local hospitals to receive a C, along with ECU Health in Greenville, Central Harnett and Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Granville Medical Center in Oxford received a D grade.

There were not many changes from the last Leapfrog report, which was released in the spring.

The watchdog group considers instances of sepsis after surgery, blood infections and C. diff infections among its grading criteria.
