RALEIGH, N.C. — A dog was dumped and left for dead off of Fanny Brown Road in Wake County on Sunday, but fortunately, someone was in the right place at the right time.

A witness saw a person tossing the dog out onto the ground from a black Audi and immediately rushed the dog to the emergency vet.

The dog is now doing much better, and the vet taking care of her said there have been many callers interested in adoption.

The dog will be transferred to the Johnston County Animal Protection League. Donations can be made online.

"She looked in rough shape when she came into us,” said Tiffany Hemphill, veterinary nurse technician. “We went ahead and got her started on IVs and pain meds and antibiotics,”

Experts believe the French Bulldog recently had a litter of puppies and is suffering from a viral infection. She was found with signs of recent previous surgeries.

“She has necrotic mastitis, she had a lot of dead tissue just hanging," Hemphill said. "She looked like she’d been seen at a hospital. Her front legs were shaved she had some vet wrap on one of her front legs so she had probably been seen fairly recently,”

The dog has already undergone one surgery and there are several more left. Unfortunately, there’s no telling what her recovery will look like.

“There is unfortunately no promises at any point in time, [but] with medicine but we do think that as long as were able to do all of the surgeries and everything, and nothing else pops up, she should be OK."

The vet assistant wants to remind people that there are better options for pet owners who can no longer care for their pet.

Those who can no longer care for their animals are encouraged to visit the SPCA of Wake County or Wake County Animal Services. You can make a donation to the Veterinary Care Foundation here.
