Man wounded by Cumberland deputy charged upon release from hospital
A man wounded three weeks ago in an exchange of gunfire with a Cumberland County deputy following a domestic disturbance call has been released from the hospital and is now in jail.
Posted — UpdatedA woman called 911 shortly on Sept. 4 requesting assistance in the 1100 block of Armadillo Drive near Fayetteville because Timothy Devon Smith Jr. was at her front door, authorities said.
When the deputy, whose name hasn't been released, arrived, Smith opened fire on him, authorities said. The deputy returned fire, wounding Smith.
Smith, 29, was released from Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Friday and was taken to the county jail, where he was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was being held under a $200,000 bond.
