RALEIGH, N.C. — A man who fell from the back of a moving pickup truck Tuesday died of his injuries at Wake Med Wednesday afternoon, a hospital spokesman said.

Zaixim Chen, 34, fell out of the bed of a truck driven by Arlene Marie Cates at Lynn and Creedmoor roads shortly after 4 p.m.Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Police said they believe Chen was holding down a mattress in the bed of the truck, but a gust of wind got under the mattress, lifting it up and tossing him out of the truck.

Cates, 36, of 6813 Chamonix Place, was charged with DWI and assault inflicting serious injury by motor vehicle. She was being held in the Wake County jail Wednesday under a $50,000 secured bond.
