Man using rope swing drowns in Moore County river

Authorities responded to an accidental drowning with CPR in process at the corner of Cabin Creek Road in Lobelia just after 5:30 p.m.

MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — A 24-year-old died Thursday evening after drowning in a Moore County river.

Authorities responded to an accidental drowning with CPR in process at the corner of Cabin Creek Road in the Lobelia area just after 5:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, emergency responders determined that Terry Robichaud, of Green Acres Road in Carthage, had died.

Witnesses said Robichaud was swimming in an area of the Little River known to locals as the “Hippy Hole” and entered the water using a rope swing but did not resurface.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the official cause of death.
