FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Jacksonville man surrendered to police Sunday evening, about 18 hours after his brother-in-law was found shot to death.
Fayetteville police charged Don Isiah Holmes Jr., 26, with first-degree murder. They said he confronted the husband of his sister after the couple had a fight.

Officers, called to the 6800 block of Winchester Stree on a report of a shooting, found Joseph Jerome Smith, 33, inside the residence. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said Smith and his wife, Donna Holmes, 26, had an argument Saturday.
