WILSON'S MILLS — A man was hit and killed by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 70 while trying to get help after wrecking his Ford Explorer Saturday evening, said Wilson's Mills Police Chief Roy Aycock.

Herbert Wilson Jr., 41, of Washington, D.C., ran off the road and hit a guardrail in the 4200 block of U.S. Highway 70 around 7:30 p.m. Wilson staggered into the middle of the road where another vehicle struck him, Aycock said.

Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

The wreck is under investigation to determine if charges will be filed.

Aycock said that Wilson was traveling with his niece and her boyfriend to visit relatives in Kinston.
