BENSON, N.C. — A 32-year-old man was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train early Wednesday morning, according to officials.

Douglas Ray Hawley, from Fuquay-Varina, died near the East Parrish Drive crossing in Benson at around 2 a.m.

Officials said that he was partially laying on one of the rails when he was struck and killed by a train traveling north.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No evidence of foul play was found, according to the Johnston County Medical Examiner.

An autopsy will be performed to determine if any underlying causes or conditions contributed to Hawley's death, according to officials.

The train was moving again by 4 a.m., authorities said.
