Man sought in Cumberland sex assault

Cumberland County Sheriff's Office detectives said Friday that they are searching for a man in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a Fayetteville woman.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office detectives said Friday that they are searching for a man in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a Fayetteville woman.

The woman said a man gave her a ride Tuesday afternoon from a convenience store in the 500 block of Grove Street. He drove to a secluded location in the Downing Road and N.C. Highway 24 area, where she said she was assaulted.

She told deputies she managed to get away after stabbing the man several times, leaving wounds on his face and abdomen.

The woman described the man's car as a dull gray, older-model Chevrolet Caprice Classic.
