Man shot, killed in Rocky Mount; gunman arrested
A man died from gunfire overnight in Rocky Mount, south of the the downtown area.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A man died from gunfire overnight in Rocky Mount, according to officials.
The shooting took place on Cooley Road at the intersection of US Highway 301.
The 39-year-old man was shot at around 1 a.m. on Thursday.
One person was taken into custody after the shooting, according to officials.
At this time, authorities did not reveal any information about the man in custody or the circumstances that led up to this shooting.
In the past week, WRAL has reported that the Rocky Mount area has had four reported shootings:
- One man was shot at Peachtree and Franklin streets. The last official word on his condition was that he was "critical but in stable condition."
- A 30-year-old man was shot and killed on Luper Street.
- A man was shot on Arlington Circle and taken to the hospital with no life-threatening injures.
- A man died and a woman was injured in a shooting in Pinetops -- a small Edgecombe County town between Greenville and Rocky Mount.
