FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police are investigating as a homicide the death of a man whose body was found in Fayetteville's Savoy Heights community Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 7:30 a.m. from a passing motorist who found the body in a grassy, vacant lot near an abandoned building at the intersection of Commerce and Robeson streets.

It wasn't clear how the man died, and police have not released any other information, including his identity.

Investigators did say, however, that police received a report around 8 p.m. Monday about gunshots in the area, but they are not sure if the death is related.

Residents who live in the area said they heard as many as five shots.

Anyone with information that could help investigators can call Fayetteville Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.

The case is Fayetteville's third homicide of the year and second since Sunday, when Adrian McClain, 32, was found shot to death inside a vehicle less than 2 miles away.
