Man rescued from car sinking in Apex pond

One man is suffering from minor injuries Monday after being pulled from a car sinking in a retention pond.

APEX, N.C. — One man is suffering from minor injuries Monday after being pulled from a car sinking in a small pond in Apex.

According to Capt. Ann Stephens with the Apex Police Department, John Hood Jr. was traveling on Lufkin Road near Ten Ten Road around 9:30 a.m. when he drove into a retention pond at 4000 Lufkin Road, behind a Sheetz gas station.

Two onlookers pulled Hood from his car with assistance from an Apex firefighter.

Hood has been taken to WakeMed in Cary with minor injuries. Officials are trying to determine why he drove into the pond.
