HENDERSON, N.C. — Crews pulled a man from a vehicle that caught fire along N.C. Highway 39 North in Vance County early Saturday.

State troopers said Antoine Watson was driving along N.C. 39 when his vehicle hit a concrete barrier around 5 a.m. The collision ruptured the fuel line in his vehicle and sparked a fire.

Firefighters got there in time to put out the fire and pull Watson from the vehicle, troopers said.

Watson suffered severe burns, tropers said. He was airlifted by WakeMed's helicopter to the Jaycees Burn Center at UNC Hospitals. He was listed in critical condition Saturday afternoon.
