Man killed, teen shot in Roanoke Rapids
A Roanoke Rapids man was fatally shot in the throat and a 14-year-old boy was "grazed" by a bullet early Friday morning at 209 Carico Lumber Road, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.
Posted — UpdatedDeputies responded to a call about a shooting at 3:40 a.m.. Tony Devon Hawkins, 36, of Roanoke Rapids, was murdered and the teen was slightly injured when a bullet grazed his upper torso. Two mobile homes and a car were hit by bullets as well.
Authorities said two men -- Elvin Maurice Alston, 23, and Travis Jackson, 19, both of Roanoke Rapids, -- left a party at the home and returned, opening fire from a car. Jackson was driving the vehicle, and Alston was armed with a high-powered rifle.
Alston and Jackson are charged with murder and are in the Halifax County jail under no bond. An initial court date is set for Aug. 24.
