RALEIGH, N.C. — A 23-year-old man died after he drove through an intersection and crashed into a turning vehicle in north Raleigh Friday evening, police said.

Police said that Jorge Leiva Flores, 23, was apparently speeding north on New Hope Road around 6:15 p.m. when his car crashed into another car making a left turn from Marsh Creek Road.

Flores' car struck the curb, overturned and skidded 350 feet before stopping in the right lane of New Hope Road.

Flores was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His passenger, Anthony Lucas Villaroel, 22, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to WakeMed, where he was treated and released.

The driver and passenger of the second car sustained minor injuries.

Police said that the driver of the turning car had a green light. The investigation into the wreck is ongoing.

Traffic was diverted from New Hope Road after the wreck.
