(AP) — Rescuers raced Saturday to search for survivors and help hundreds of people left homeless after a powerful tornado cut a devastating path through Mississippi, killing at least 25 people, injuring dozens, and flattening entire blocks as it carved a path of destruction for more than an hour. One person was killed in Alabama.

A hit-and-run along U.S. Highway 1 killed a 54-year-old pedestrian, a half-mile outside Henderson Sunday morning, state troopers said.

<b>HENDERSON, N.C.</b> — A hit-and-run on U.S. Highway 1 killed a 54-year-old pedestrian, a half-mile outside Henderson, Sunday morning, state troopers said.

Robert Fletcher Grissom was killed while walking along the highway, reportedly with another person, around 5:20 a.m.

Troopers were searching for a small red vehicle with damage to the front side to the windshield.
