Man killed in high-speed wreck

A 22-year-old man died when his car overturned at speeds of at least 85 mph on a Wayne County Road early Saturday, state troopers said.

DUDLEY, N.C. — A 22-year-old man died when his car overturned at speeds of at least 85 mph on a Wayne County Road early Saturday, state troopers said.

Troopers said that the car veered off the roadway at 523 Outlaw Road in Dudley around 1:30 a.m., then flipped over.

The 22-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity hasn't been released.

Troopers estimated that the car was going 85 to 90 mph. The speed limit there is 45 mph.
