GARNER, N.C. — A drive-by shooting in Garner resulted in one man's death late Friday night.

The shooting occurred on U.S. Highway 70 eastbound between White Oak Road and Interstate 40 around 10 p.m.

An exit of I-40 was shutdown while police investigated. There was a heavy police presence near White Oak Shopping Center. Kyree Dickerson, who was a passenger in a Mercedes at the time of the shooting, died at the hospital.

Dickerson was 24 years old. The driver of the Mercedes was not hurt.

“This does not appear to be a random incident, and investigators are working diligently to locate the suspect vehicle and identify the person(s) responsible for Dickerson’s death, “said Garner Police Captain Lorie Smith.

Officers are now investigating to find out what led to the shooting.
