Man killed in crash while fleeing deputies in Fuquay-Varina

— A man was killed Sunday night in a Fuquay-Varina crash while trying to flee deputies.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the driver was stopped by deputies before he tried to escape.

Before 10:30 p.m., his car crashed at Barefoot Road and Wagstaff Road, near Harnett County line. The man, who was 52, died at the scene.

A passenger in his car was transported to WakeMed with serious injuries.

Troopers told WRAL News the driver was stopped because of some outstanding warrants. No guns, weapons or drugs were found in the car. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
