VASS, N.C. — One man was killed and four others were injured in a two-vehicle wreck that happened Wednesday morning in Moore County.

The NC State Highway Patrol reports the accident happened just east of Vass. Deputies said a white pickup truck ran off the roadway, overcorrected, went left of center and collided with a landscaping truck. The pickup truck then caught on fire.

Investigators were still trying to determine why the pickup truck went off the roadway.

The driver of the first vehicle, Austin Houston, 20, was killed. The passenger in the vehicle, James Mulcahy, 22, of Vass, was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was listed in critical condition.

Two people in the landscaping truck were transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Their names were not released.
