Man killed, driver sought in Nash County crash
A Wilson man was killed early Saturday after he rear-ended a vehicle, crashed and was hit by an oncoming tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 264, according to the state Highway Patrol.
Posted — UpdatedThe three-vehicle crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. on the eastbound side of the highway near N.C. Highway 581, just outside Bailey.
Edgar David Sanchez, 27, of 5704 Dove Road, was killed.
Troopers say Sanchez was at fault for the crash, but they are still searching for the driver of the second vehicle who left the scene after being rear-ended. They believe the person was driving a truck with dual-rear tires.
Troopers say a witness saw Sanchez's car overturned and stopped to called 911. An oncoming tractor-trailer saw the witness' vehicle on the left shoulder, so the driver moved into the right lane, not knowing Sanchez's overturned car was there, and crashed into it.
The witness said Sanchez's car did not have any lights on and was difficult to see.
Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say they are not sure if alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. Sanchez's body was sent to the medical examiner's office in Raleigh.
No other information was released.
