Man involved in Lumberton Walmart incident turns himself in, facing charges

The suspect wanted for brandishing a firearm in the Lumberton Walmart and starting a fight with another man turned himself in Thursday night.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — The suspect wanted for brandishing a firearm in the Lumberton Walmart and starting a fight with another man turned himself in Thursday night.

Lumberton police said Willie Montrel Floyd, 26, of Fairmont was taken into custody after turning himself in around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Officials said he got into a fight with Christopher Jaquane Ellerby inside the Walmart at 5070 Fayetteville Road. Police were called to the scene at 6:49 p.m., initially believing it was an active shooter situation.

Police said Floyd had the weapon on him before, during and after the altercation. They said no shots were fired inside or outside the Walmart. Floyd turned in that handgun to police.

Floyd was charged with assault by pointing a gun, going armed to the terror of people, assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats. He was booked into the Robeson County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
