Man in wheelchair killed in hit-and-run

A man in a motorized wheelchair was killed while crossing the on-ramp to Interstate 52 in Winston-Salem late Friday.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man in a motorized wheelchair was killed while crossing the on-ramp to Interstate 52 in Winston-Salem late Friday.

Police said that Ronald Lee Watson, 38, was traveling north in the 1200 block of Liberty Street shortly before 11 p.m., and a silver Chevrolet SUV struck him as he crossed the on-ramp. Witnesses said the driver of the SUV stopped briefly but then left, going south on U.S. 52.

Watson died at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

No arrests have been made.
