Man in police custody shot, killed by Duke officer at emergency room
Officials say the man was in custody of the Durham Police Department at the time of the shooting. There was a struggle and the man managed to take the Durham officer's gun.

OFFICIALS CONFIRMED A DUKE POLICE OFFICER SHOT AND KILLED A MAN IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND TRAUMA DEPARTMENT. THE OFFICIALS SAY A DURHAM POLICE OFFICER HAD CUSTODY OF THE MAN AT THE HOSPITAL. THERE WAS A STRUGGLE, AND THE MAN TOOK THE OFFICER'S GUN. A DUKE OFFICER RESPONDING TO THE SCENE SHOT THE MAN. HE DID NOT SURVIVE. THE DURHAM OFFICER WAS TREATED FOR INJURIES AND RELEASED. NO PATIENTS, HOSPITAL STAFF, OR POLICE OFFICERS WERE HURT. THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN OPERATIONAL WITH REDUCED CAPACITY WHILE THE INVESTIGATION
