RALEIGH, N.C. — One man is in custody following a police chase Thursday afternoon in Wake County.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said a trooper attempted to stop a Cadillac traveling west on Interstate 40 near the Interstate 440 exit at about 3:25 p.m. after an instance of reckless driving.

The driver of the Cadillac failed to stop for the trooper and continued driving on I-440. As the suspect reached New Bern Avenue, the trooper ended the pursuit because of heavy traffic in the area, according to the Highway Patrol.

A Wake County deputy later encountered the Cadillac and a second chase began. The deputy took the suspect into custody on Capital Boulevard at about 3:45 p.m., troopers said.

Video from Sky 5 showed multiple police cars surrounding the man sitting on the side of Capital Boulevard in handcuffs just after 4 p.m.

Troopers said the man, who has not been identified, was arrested and charged by the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

During the course of the second chase, the suspect’s vehicle struck a Wake County deputy’s car twice. The impact caused a tire on the deputy’s vehicle to pop, but nobody was injured, authorities said.
