Man in custody after running over his own leg in Johnston County

According to Johnston County Sheriff's deputies, the man fled from a home driving in excess of 100 mph and colided with another car. The man then jumped from the car and attempted to flee again.

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Johnston County Sheriff's deputies took a man into custody Thursday after he ran over his own leg.

According to deputies, they responded to a rural home in Johnston County and the suspect fled when deputies arrived.

The suspect was driving down Cleveland Road over 100 mph, before crashing into a car while turning on to Commerce Parkway.

Deputies said the suspect attempted to flee on foot, but was run over by his own car, injuring his leg in the process, and disappeared into the woods.

After the suspect disappeared from the crash, deputies received a tip from multiple people that the suspect was at a nearby McDonalds' parking lot asking for assistance.

Deputies caught the man as he fled down Interstate 40 and the North Carolina Highway 42 off ramp.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for his injuries and is facing a felony warrant and more additional charges from the incident.
