Man hit, killed in Sanford while returning to hotel room from convenience store

A pedestrian has died after a woman accidentally struck him with her vehicle walking on a dark road in Sanford on Thursday night. Officials said the accident occurred on North Horner Blvd. near Sumpter Drive, just a short distance from the Days Inn, where the man was spending the night with his wife.

SANFORD, N.C. — A pedestrian was killed while walking on a dark road in Sanford on Thursday night when a driver struck him with her vehicle.

The victim's wife said that he had just stepped out to go get something to drink and did not return.

She said he had taken a quick walk to a nearby Circle K convenience store. She said he was on the return trip to their room at the Days Inn, where she was waiting.

Officials said the accident occurred on North Horner Blvd. near Sumpter Drive, just a short distance from the Days Inn, where the couple was spending the night.

Sanford Police are investigating the accident, after confirming there was a fatal pedestrian incident. One car involved was towed.
