Man found shot in Rolesville was a Smithfield resident

Rolesville Police have identified the man whose body was found Tuesday in undeveloped subdivision as Ismael Merales-Castro, 30, of Smithfield.

ROLESVILLE, N.C. — Rolesville Police have identified the man whose body was found Tuesday in undeveloped subdivision as Ismael Merales-Castro, 30, of Smithfield.
Rolesville Police Chief Tim Stoker said someone found Merales-Castro's body about a quarter-mile into the woods near the Drayton Reserve subdivision on Forestville Road.

Stoker said investigators believe the victim had been fatally shot at the scene. The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.

Members of Rolesville and Smithfield police are working together on solve his homicide.

Merales-Castro's family reported him missing on Wednesday, Smithfield police said. His vehicle, a dark gray 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer with N.C. license plate XXN-8404, is missing.
