RALEIGH, N.C. — The body of 21-year-old Rodney Lewis Clark, Jr. was found dead Thursday on a trail near Crabtree Valley Mall.

Clark Jr.'s father, Rodney Clark, told WRAL News his son took the Crabtree Creek Trail often to walk home from work at a nearby McDonald's. Investigators haven’t ruled the case a homicide, but the victim’s father said he believes his son was killed.

"He was a happy kid. He was so full of life, so full of joy," said Clark. "He was proud of what he became."

Clark's namesake is now the center of a death investigation.

"I’m just confused and upset and everything," said Clark. "Everything just doesn’t add up."

Raleigh police found Clark Jr. after 3 p.m. Thursday.

"I’m almost certain that he was shot," said Clark.

Clark said his son took this trail home to and from work without any problems. He said his regular routine made him a target.

"Someone was watching his routine and knew his routine," said Clark. "[They] followed him and waited until he got to a secluded area with nobody around and did what they did."

After asking Raleigh police for more details on how Clark Jr. died, WRAL News received a statement that reads in part:

“This is an active investigation and ongoing death investigation and there is limited information that I can provide …. Detectives are working diligently to determine the circumstances of this incident.”

The family told WRAL News the funeral arrangements are scheduled for Friday afternoon in Wilson.
