DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are investigating after a man was killed in a Wednesday night shooting.

Authorities said officers arrived in the 2700 block of Cheek Road just after 6:30 p.m. and found Rodney Lewis Wicker, 46, lying in the street with a gunshot wound.

Wicker was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness said he heard the gun go off and attempted to get the license plate of the man responsible, but was unsuccessful.

"The guy didn't say anything. He leaned out the window and went 'pow, pow pow' and shot toward the end of the car and took off," the witness said.

Police said Cheek Road, between Harvest Street and Junction Road, will be closed for several hours as officers investigate.

Anybody with information is asked to call Durham police at 919-560-4440 or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
