ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A man was found dead in Roanoke Rapids early Monday.

A shooting occurred on Grant Drive at about 4 a.m., and Daquinn Fernando Blount, 23, a Georgia resident who formerly lived Roanoke Rapids, was killed. Another man was wounded in the shooting and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said investigators "have a clear understanding of what happened," but they are waiting on ballistics tests before filing any charges.

Meanwhile, a narcotic search warrant was served at the residence, and deputies found 372 grams of marijuana, 10 dosage units of heroin, 84 dosage units of oxycodone and several items of drug paraphernalia, Tripp said.

Claude Luther Celestine, 39, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with possession with the intent to sell or deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of heroin and common law obstruction.
