ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A man fleeing police caused a wreck in Rocky Mount Friday night, police said.

Officers responding to a call about a man with a weapon stopped a white Nissan Maxima at Hill Street and Redgate Avenue. When they approached the car, the driver sped away and eventually hit another car at Oakwood Drive and Tarboro Street.

Police arrested Anthony Waterman, 27, and charged him with DWI, driving with a revoked license, careless and reckless driving and eluding arrest. They also charged Waterman with child abuse because his son was in the car at the time.

The driver of the car that Waterman hit, Malinda Harrison, 52, was taken to Nash General Hospital with a broken leg, police said.
