Man fatally struck by car while changing tire in Orange County
A man was struck and killed early Monday morning after he pulled over to change a tire.
Posted — UpdatedAround 3:15 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a crash on Interstate 40/85 near Dimmocks Mill Road and Mile Marker 161 in Hillsborough. They found the body of Deshawn Maurice Perry, 33, of Durham, in the far right lane.
Investigators say Perry had a flat tire and pulled over to the right side of the interstate.
It was after he changed his tire, while he was gathering his tools, that Perry was struck by another vehicle, officials say. That driver fled the scene.
Officials had no information on the type of vehicle that hit Perry. They asked that anyone with information call the State Highway Patrol’s Orange County Office at (919) 732-2551 or, after hours, the Communications Center at (336) 334-5500.
